Short Term Respite (STR) and Medium Term Accommodation (MTA)

Short Term Respite (STR) and Medium Term Accommodation: Rest, Recharge & Move Forward
Everyone needs a break from their usual routine, including people living with disability and their families. Western Healthcare Group provides Short Term Respite (STR) and Medium Term Accommodation (MTA) support designed to give NDIS participants a safe, comfortable and enjoyable environment while providing families and carers with valuable time to rest and recharge.
Our STR and MTA services are tailored to individual needs, preferences and NDIS goals. Whether you need a short break, want to try a new experience or require temporary support while your usual carer takes a break, or need somewhere to stay, our team is here to help.
What Is Short Term Respite (STR)?
Short Term Respite, commonly known as Short Term Accommodation (STA), provides temporary support and accommodation away from a participant’s usual home. It can be arranged for a short period and may include assistance with daily activities, personal care, social participation and recreational activities.
STR can help participants:
  • Experience a change of environment and routine
  • Build independence and confidence
  • Develop social and communication skills
  • Participate in enjoyable activities
  • Meet new people and explore new interests
  • Give family members and carers time to rest
What Does Our STR Support Include?
At Western Healthcare Group, we focus on making each respite experience safe, meaningful and participant-centred. Depending on individual requirements, support includes:
  • Assistance with personal care and daily living
  • Meal preparation and support with meals
  • Assistance with household tasks
  • Community access and social participation
  • Recreational and leisure activities
  • Support to attend appointments or activities
  • Encouragement to develop independent living skills
  • Overnight support where required
Our team takes the time to understand each participant’s preferences, routines, goals and support requirements before arranging their STR experience.
A Respite Experience Built Around You
We understand that every NDIS participant is different. That’s why our approach is flexible and focused on individual choice and control.
Participants can be supported to choose activities that align with their interests, whether that involves spending time in the community, enjoying hobbies, connecting with others or simply having a relaxing break from their everyday routine.
We prioritise dignity, respect, safety and independence throughout every stage of our STR service.
Need a well-deserved break or a supportive place to stay while you wait for your long-term home? Start your STR or MTA journey with us.
What Is Medium Term Accommodation (MTA)?
Medium Term Accommodation (MTA) provides temporary accommodation for NDIS participants who are unable to move into their long-term home because they are waiting for suitable housing or their permanent accommodation is being prepared.
MTA can provide a safe and comfortable place to stay while you work towards your longer-term housing goals. It may be suitable when you need temporary accommodation due to circumstances such as:
  • Waiting for a suitable long-term property
  • Waiting for specialist disability accommodation or other housing
  • Transitioning between living arrangements
  • Experiencing changes in your housing circumstances
MTA is generally designed as a temporary solution rather than a permanent home.
